Slow Motion

You know those really cool slow motion shots of car crashes or explosions or CSI-esque science stuff? I live in a constant loop of those images. No, not exact replicas of shots I've seen before. More like, if I see a car almost hit another car, my mind flashes what it would look like if it did.

Example: A two-lane highway. You're in a little 4 door Honda-thing traveling north, and they're in an 18-wheeler traveling south. They get a phone call, look down to screen it, you're looking off to the right and don't see them swerve into your lane. Impact. Metal screeches, his left-front tire crumples the front half of your car. Whiplash. Hands fly to the roof, wrists smack. Airbag to the face. Etc etc.

It's not just car crashes, either. If I have a fleeting thought about a robbery or falling off a stair or something similar, I get the play-by-play in pictures. The glimpses vary in detail but most are pretty intense and I've yet to figure out how to turn it off. It'd probably be a very useful thing if I were in the film industry...but I am not. It's probably a common thing but, then again, it's probably somewhat abnormal.

Introduction and Definition

You might be wondering why I've decided to blog again and also why the title is the title. Upon discussing my daily musings with friends, it has occurred to me that a lot of what goes through my head would be considered "abnormal", which brings me to the definition courtesy of Merriam-Webster:

Abnormal: Deviating from what is normal or usual, typically in a way that is undesirable.

So, I decided that rather than restrict my mental mysteries to the confines of one or two people's enjoyment, I should post them for the world to see. It's not that I consider myself in any way deranged or special, I think that probably a lot of people share the trains of thought that I do but they just are smart enough to keep it to themselves.

This blog will have a wide variety of topics and I really have no idea what format it will take. So, if you'd like to brave the adventure into my psyche, I implore you to continue reading...this should get interesting!

I think I will start with a seemingly simple thought: when asked to picture a date, such as November 1st, 2009, what do you see? I'll give you a moment...

What did you see? Did you see a calendar with the date on it? Did you picture an event that happened on that date? Or just the numbers in your head?

I picture dates in a different way. When asked about a specific date, I picture the months in a circular fashion (more oblong, really); days to come stretch out in front of "me" and days gone by are behind and around a corner. For me, a year is almost like a road going round and round a track that is my life. I only just recently heard that this is probably abnormal.
